AN INVITATION for MEMBERS AND THE COMMUNITY

A fantastic opportunity to share your garden bounty, or possibly re-home some mistakes from your yard and garden. This is a great way to learn what grows well in the Snoqualmie Valley and talk with gardeners about their tips and tricks for garden success! No plants? No worries! Pots, planters, garden tools, art, books and baked goods are all acceptable currency for this event!

Rules (similar to a trunk-or-treat event for gardeners):
- Rain or Shine
- Please arrive at Encompass Parking lot, 9050 384th Ave SE, Snoqualmie, no earlier than 6:00 PM. The exchange will begin at 6:30 PM late arrivals are welcome, as always, please show caution in the parking lot.
- The swap will end at 8:00.
- NO SALES. Trades, barter and gifting only.
- Any plants or items placed outside/behind the vehicle are for trade. Plants or items inside the vehicle are not available.
- Have FUN. Join us.

🌻 Garden Together 🌻

The Encompass Child Development Center plays a vital role in our community, offering invaluable support to children and families. They graciously allow us to host our monthly meetings in their beautiful facility. As a token of our appreciation, we assist in maintaining the enchanting Children’s Sensory Garden. If you’d like to lend a hand and be a part of this meaningful effort, please reach out to Melody Granillo at magsnoq@gmail.com  

We’ll be working from 10:00am - 12:00pm and 1:00pm - 3:00pm. There will be weeding, rock moving, shrub trimming and a planning session for a marble run to be installed later this month.

Please bring gloves, shovels, clippers and ingenuity!

WHY PLANT NATIVES?

·      Native plants are healthier and stronger. Native plants are adapted to our climate of wet winters and dry summers.  Because they have evolved with the climate, seasonal patterns, water supply and soil conditions of our environment, native plants tend to establish easily and be naturally hardy. They are also part of a larger natural ecosystem.

·      Native plants support pollinators and provide habitat for wildlife.  Yes - bees, butterflies and birds, but native plants also help create homes for small animals and important soil organisms. Native plants create a natural habitat for wildlife that is both beneficial to the environment and adds life to your outdoor space.

·      Native plants help the environment, and you!  Once established, native plants require less water than most non-natives. They also resist native pests and diseases better and improve water quality by needing less fertilizer and no pesticides.  Native plants save resources and encourage a sense of stewardship.  That also means less costly inputs, and less work for the gardener! 

·      Native plants add beauty and more to your landscape.  Whether of formal or informal design, a garden with native plants can provide a wealth of colors, textures, varying heights, and bloom times over multiple seasons.  You don’t need to go full native; adding natives to your existing landscape can add beauty, birdsong, and beneficial insects while enhancing diversity in your garden.

·      Native plants help maintain and restore a local sense of place.  The Puget Sound/Western Cascades area of the Pacific Northwest is a unique and beautiful biome.  Using native plants in our gardens helps to maintain the natural landscape character that defines our region.  Why would we want them to look like anywhere else??

We’re very sorry to share that our April 26 event with Marianne Binetti has been cancelled. Marianne recently experienced a hiking accident that will require surgery, recovery and rest. We send her our best wishes for a full and speedy recovery.

If you purchased a ticket, we are happy to offer a full refund—or, if you prefer, you may choose to convert your ticket into a donation to the Mount Si High School senior scholarship fund, which the event was designed to support. Either option is warmly appreciated.

MARIANNE BINETTI is a northwest horticultural expert: Marianne has a degree in horticulture from Washington State University and writes a syndicated gardening column that runs in over a dozen newspapers each week including the The Tacoma News Tribune (Sundays) and The Daily Olympian (Saturdays). She has also written or co-written 10 gardening books including "Easy Answers for Great Gardens" and her latest book "Edible Gardening for Washington and Oregon" She lectures and gives seminars on a variety of topics, has appeared on HGTV and hosts radio and TV programs. Marianne leads garden tours around the world with her husband Joe. She lives and gardens on two acres in Enumclaw, near Seattle, Washington.

The Snoqualmie Valley Garden Club proudly presents our Second Annual Cultivating Conversations: Speakers of Note, a special fundraising event dedicated to supporting Mt Si High School students. All ticket sales and donations go directly toward senior scholarships for Mount Si High School, ensuring that funds stay within the Snoqualmie Valley.

This annual event is our way of connecting with the greater community—bringing people together for an afternoon of learning, inspiration, and fun. It also showcases our thriving club, which welcomes gardeners of all interests and experience levels with a wide range of activities throughout the year.

Make-Your-Own Wine Bottle Wind Chime Workshop

 Here's how it works.

Sign up, then just show up! All supplies and instructions you need are provided in the $20.00* cost to make 1 bottle windchime. This includes a wine bottle (probably green) and all chains and beads to complete the project.

Member cost is $15.00, with current member code at checkout.

You may also bring any beads you'd like to use for the project. Just be sure they have a hole drilled thru them so they can be strung. 

TIP: Check out the wine shops and Amazon for colored and unique bottles. Hobby Lobby has great sales on inexpensive beads. Sue will have everything you need ready to make your windchime and leave with a finished project.
